Parkinson's In-Home Care in Southwest Florida

When Parkinson’s Became Personal

The right caregiver makes daily life with Parkinson's safer and calmer. Abby Services' founder lived with Parkinson's, and since 1997 we've helped families across Lee, Collier, and Charlotte Counties find screened, credentialed in-home caregivers experienced with the balance, mobility, and timing challenges this disease brings. Abby Services is a state licensed nurse registry that has helped Southwest Florida families find experienced, screened caregivers with Parkinson's care experience since 1997.

Compassionate Parkinson's support, in the comfort of home

This page is personal for us. Abby Services' founder — our owner's father — lived with Parkinson's, and his family walked the same road many of you are on now: the balance changes, the medication clockwork, the good days and the hard ones. When he needed caregivers, they came through Abby Services — the same matchmaking, the same screened caregivers we refer to your family. We trusted our own service with our own founder.

That experience shapes how we help. The caregivers we refer assist with the everyday challenges Parkinson's brings: balance and fall risk, slowed movement, fatigue, and the careful timing that medication reminders require. With the right support in place, your loved one can stay safe, comfortable, and independent at home for as long as possible.

How In-Home Caregivers Help with Parkinson's

Parkinson's affects everyone differently — and progresses over time. The caregivers we refer can assist with daily needs while giving your family room to breathe.

  • Standby support for balance, walking, and fall prevention
  • Medication reminders on the precise schedule Parkinson's demands
  • Help with bathing, dressing, and grooming as movement slows
  • Meal preparation, with patience at mealtimes
  • Dressing help with buttons, zippers, and fine-motor tasks
  • Companionship and encouragement on harder days
  • Light housekeeping, laundry, and errands around the home
  • Respite care so family caregivers can rest and recharge

Signs It May Be Time for In-Home Parkinson's Care

We know from experience: families try to manage on their own until it becomes too much. It may be time to bring in a caregiver if your loved one is:

  • Having more frequent falls or close calls
  • Struggling to get to the bathroom safely or in time
  • Missing doses or mistiming Parkinson's medications
  • Freezing in doorways or struggling with transitions
  • Exhausted by tasks that used to be simple
  • Leaning harder on a spouse who's wearing down

If any of this sounds familiar, our team is happy to help you find the best path forward so your loved one remains safe and comfortable at home.

Paying for Parkinson's In-Home Care

Cost is one of the first questions families ask. Here are the most common ways our clients pay for care:

Private pay

The most common option — pay only for the hours you actually need, and scale up or down anytime.

Long-term care insurance

Many policies cover in-home care. We help you make sense of the paperwork. Learn about LTC insurance →

Hospice benefit

For those who qualify, hospice can cover in-home support. We'll help you understand if it applies.

Veterans' benefits

Veterans and surviving spouses may qualify for aid that helps offset the cost of in-home care.

Parkinson's Care Questions, Answered

We work with many caregivers with a wide array of experience and skills. You can request caregivers with hands-on Parkinson's experience — familiarity with fall prevention, slowed movement, and the rhythm of good days and hard days — but often the best match comes down to aligned personalities and competence. Our founder's caregivers came through Abby Services, so we know exactly what a good Parkinson's match looks like — we've made one for our own family. Tell us what your loved one's days involve, and we'll refer caregivers who align with those needs.

Parkinson's medications work best on a precise schedule — late doses can mean hours of increased stiffness, tremor, or freezing. We learned this in our founder's home before we ever explained it to a client. A caregiver's reminders help keep the schedule on track, which often makes the difference between a good day and a hard one.

Fall prevention is one of the most common reasons Parkinson's families seek care — standby support with walking, transfers, stairs, and bathroom trips, plus an extra set of eyes on the moments when freezing or balance loss strikes. You direct your caregiver on where the risks are in your loved one's day.

Yes — that's where the flexibility Abby Services offers shines. Schedule the support that fits now, then adjust hours as symptoms progress or medication changes shake things up. We follow a client-directed philosophy that keeps you and your family safe, in control, and in the driver's seat.

You'll see a wide range of rates depending on location, hours, and level of care. Be cautious of services that won't discuss rates until they've visited your home — too often that visit isn't about evaluating your needs, it's about evaluating what you can afford to pay. We do it differently: caregivers set their own rates, we're upfront about typical ranges, and a phone consultation is free. Call us and we'll give you a clear picture for your situation.

We're a matchmaking service, and we like to say you don't marry the first person you go on a date with. While we work hard to find the best fit the first time, that isn't always possible — you can request a different caregiver at any time, no hard feelings, no hassle. The right personality match matters, and your feedback helps us identify better candidates for you. This is especially true with Parkinson's, where support often continues for years and the bond and trust built along the way become part of the care itself. We'll keep working with you until you find the right fit.

Often within 24 hours during the work week — the real timeline depends on how quickly the key pieces come together: documents, payment arrangements, and your caregiver preferences. Once those are in place, we can make a match. That said, this isn't a perfect world, and emergencies happen. If you're facing a crisis — a fall, a hospital discharge, a family caregiver who's burned out — call us and we'll prioritize your search. In urgent situations, care can be arranged in as little as an hour.
