Understanding the Support Families May Need

Families contact Abby Services for many different reasons: a loved one is returning home after a hospital or rehabilitation stay, daily activities have become more difficult, dementia or Parkinson’s disease is changing the routine, or a family caregiver can no longer manage everything alone.

Scott Strachan, RN, BSN, owner and administrator of Abby Services, has personally assisted Southwest Florida clients facing these types of needs. His perspective also includes working as a private in-home caregiver and helping members of his own local family arrange and receive caregiver support.

That combination of clinical, caregiver, family, and local experience helps Abby Services understand the practical differences between companionship, hands-on personal assistance, respite, live-in arrangements, recovery support, and other caregiver needs.

Caregiver Services: Common Questions

Abby Services helps families connect with caregivers for companionship, personal care, activities of daily living, dementia and Parkinson’s support, respite, live-in arrangements, post-surgical recovery, hospital or rehabilitation discharge needs, and other changing situations.

Start by considering the type of help needed, the schedule, the individual’s daily routine, and whether hands-on assistance is required. Abby Services can discuss your situation and help you understand which caregiver options may be the best fit.

Abby Services is a Florida-licensed nurse registry. We connect families with screened, self-employed caregivers. Abby Services does not directly provide, supervise, manage, or direct the caregiver’s services.

Yes. Families may begin with companionship or limited assistance and later need more hands-on support, longer shifts, respite, or live-in arrangements. The client and caregiver determine the services, schedule, and terms of their arrangement.

Abby Services can begin discussing your needs promptly, but referral timing depends on the location, schedule, type of assistance requested, and caregiver availability. Delays often occur while families review and sign the client agreement or complete payment information, so finishing those steps promptly can help the process move forward. Families facing an upcoming discharge or surgery should contact Abby as early as possible.

These arrangements may be available depending on the client’s needs, requested schedule, and caregiver availability. Live-in care does not mean continuous 24-hour service and generally includes defined rest and sleep periods. Abby Services can discuss your family’s particular needs and help you understand which arrangement may be the best fit for your situation.

Abby Services reviews required registration documents, background screening results, credentials, training documentation, and other eligibility requirements before a caregiver may be referred to clients. Abby Services is licensed and regulated by Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) and has maintained a strong record of deficiency-free surveys. AHCA establishes background screening, training, and registration requirements designed to help protect clients and support informed caregiver referrals.

Abby Services refers caregivers throughout Lee, Collier, and Charlotte Counties, including Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Estero, Naples, Lehigh Acres, North Fort Myers, Babcock Ranch, Shell Point, Sanibel, and Fort Myers Beach.

Contact Abby Services to discuss your loved one’s needs, requested schedule, location, and the type of assistance being considered. You may also provide the initial details through our Client Intake Form. After submitting the form, you will receive important information about getting started, and a member of our team can follow up to discuss your request and begin identifying caregivers whose experience and availability may align with your needs.
