Inpatient Rehabilitation and Private Care

November 15, 2017Scott StrachanRehab Facility, UncategorizedNo comments

At Abby Services we work hard to find private caregivers who are trained to help patients live independently.

Whether someone needs home healthcare assistance for one day, or on an ongoing basis, we can help find the best private caregivers in Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and throughout Lee County. Sometimes even with the assistance of a home health caregiver patients still need more support when recovering from surgery, illness or unanticipated setback. Often when discharged from a hospital setting, patients will need time to recover and skilled support prior to returning home. That is where our local Nursing & Rehab Facilities can help. With the assistance of specially trained caregivers patients can receive Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Therapy to help them recover, regain, and remain independent. The goal of any rehabilitation program is to increase the level of independent functioning of a patient.

Rehabilitation is an important component of independence and a safe return home. Inpatient Rehabilitation is not always easy and it is important that patients make the most of the time and resources available to them during their rehab stay. Sometimes even when inpatient rehabilitation is complete (or funding ends) patients still require periodic or ongoing support from a private caregiver. Abby Services is here to help. We have a large pool of trained caregivers ready to help. The best part is that as you continue to recover you can decrease the level of support you are receiving and can cancel at any time. Often there is confusion about what Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy services entail. The following should help clear up some questions:

Physical Therapy:

Physical therapy meets the needs of patients who have a loss of function or independence due to an illness or injury, and if is caused by external sorces a compensation may be need it and law professionals from sites as danielhegwer.com could really help with this. Physical Therapists help patients regain functional abilities such as walking, improving strength, balance, endurance, and recovering from painful injuries. Comprehensive physical therapy covers:

  • Gait training with assistive devices
  • Muscle re-education
  • Muscle strengthening and coordination
  • Pain management
  • Prosthetic evaluation and training
  • Transfer training

Occupational Therapy:

Occupational therapy helps patients return to their highest level of independence in activities of daily living. Functional skills such as self-feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting and homemaking are taught.

Outcome-oriented occupational therapy should include the following:

  • Activities of daily living
  • Assistive device assessment & training
  • Cognitive/perceptual assessment and training including recommendations for environmental adaptations
  • Energy conservation techniques
  • Instruction in self-help tasks
  • Safety training
  • Splint fabrication and modification
  • Upper extremity strengthening and coordination

Speech Therapy:

With Speech Therapy a speech pathologist treats patients with speech, language, swallowing and hearing impairments. The patient’s ability to communicate and swallow are two functional skills improved through speech therapy. Treatment includes:

  • Alternative means of communication assessment and training
  • Cognitive assessment and training
  • Speech-language evaluation and therapy
  • Swallowing (Dysphasia evaluation and treatment, including food texture
    evaluation and recommendations)
  • Vocal evaluation and treatment

Home Health Care:

In-Home Health Care is typically provided by an HHA or CNA. The goal of a home health aide is to assist an individual to maintain independence. Unfortunately, Medicare does not typically pay for these types of services but they are covered through some VA benefits, Long Term Care Insurance, or are often paid for privately. In-Home Caregivers can provide assistance with the following:

  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Laundry
  • Grooming
  • Pet Care
  • Personal hygiene
  • Shopping
  • Assistance to appointments
  • Light Housekeeping
  • Incontinence care
  • Communicating with family
  • And much more
